About

GUSNA is an affiliate of SNP Students which has been fighting for Independence, Social Democracy, and Social Justice at the University of Glasgow since 1927

The Glasgow University Scottish Nationalist Association was founded in 1927, and for nearly 100 years we been campaigning for social justice, social democracy, and Scottish independence. In that time our members have included the SNP’s founder John MacCormick, trailblazers like Mhairi Black or Winnie Ewing, and even the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon herself. Today, we mostly host socials, campaigns, and more.

GUSNA, like the SNP and Yes campaign as a whole is open to everyone. Independence is not about if you’re Scottish, English, British, Irish, European – it’s a question about what kind of Scotland we want to live in, and who’s choice that should be. GUSNA believes in a progressive, European Scotland, where decisions about Scotland's future are made by the people who live in Scotland, not Westminster politicians like Rishi Sunak or Keir Starmer.

The UK faces an immense cost of living crisis, caused by Tory economic mismanagment and Brexit, and Scotland's democratic will is consistently being denied by Westminster politicians, whether that's our mandate for an independence referendum being ignored, or a Section 35 order blocking our parliament being from giving trans people basic dignity. The next few years of Scottish politics are set to be some of the most important in history, and GUSNA will be right at the heart of that, as we always have been. If you want to be part of the campaign, or even just chat about it, then there’s never been a better time to get involved.
